YOUTH GROUP 2015-16 - September 13, 2015 meeting for parents and youth
Our main focus will be on preparing for Confirmation in 2016. I submitted two dates: May 22 – first choice & May 15 – second choice.
Confirmation is not a “graduation” from CCD classes. It is one of the steps on our faith journey, an opportunity to build upon what is already known and experienced while gaining additional experiences of reflection, prayer and learning that will help them make a well-informed decision and commitment to discipleship (discipleship implies continuing education and formation.) We are never too old to learn and experience spiritual growth.
The archdiocese requires our young people to have knowledge about the sacraments, the Creed, the Catholic Church, Morality and the fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit as well as experience a rich and variety of prayer forms. Also they ask for all our young people to build a relationship with the parish community. Just as in our high schools, service hours in the community and church are required. But we will be keeping track of them in a different way. Helping in one of the ministries at Mass is one way of doing service and being part of the “Church”. They will also be participating in a couple mini retreats and a weekend retreat in the Spring.
All work and no play makes “Jack & Jill” very dull… so along with the learning, we want the youth to have fun - and will be having activities to enjoy the world…
All high school students are invited to take part in the Youth Group, even if they have already been confirmed – as those then can share their knowledge and experience with others.
For those being confirmed, if they were not baptized at OLPH or St Philip, I will need to see their baptismal certificate.
Sponsors and a saints name are also something that the young people can be thinking about. A sponsor is someone you look up to as being a mentor in the Catholic faith. They might want to find a saint that either they feel a bond or could be a “mentor” by their life style.
Sept 27 ~ Help with CCD/ Parish Potluck
There will be a meeting this Sunday after Mass at OLPH for all youth group parents and students. We are in a “confirmation year” so all students wanting confirmation and all parents wanting to have a say in scheduling should be at the meeting.
